The
Probus Club of Kincumber
IN
THE BEGINNING
On
Tuesday 27* of March 1984, after extensive newspaper
advertising, an "interest" meeting was called by Rotarian
Ted Johnson, acting on behalf of the Rotary Club of Kincumber
to see if a Probus Club could be formed in the Kincumber
district.
40
interested persons attended this meeting which was held in the
club rooms of avoca beach bowling club , Ted Johnson, who was
also president of the bowling club at the time, extended a
warm welcome to those present. He introduced the president of
the Rotary Club of Kincumber, Michael Hunter, who after speaking,
in turn, introduced Wal Freeman, who was secretary of
"Probus News" Wal explained about
the
Probus movement and answered questions.
Attending
the meeting were members of already formed clubs on the
central coast, they were from Terrigal,
The Entrance, East Gosford, Gosford and West Gosford Probus
Clubs, they introduced themselves and told of their various
experiences in club activities, after questions, a morning tea
was served by
Irene Dunlop and Jean Johnson.
Upon
resumption of the meeting it was moved and seconded that a
Probus club be formed. It was to be known
as "The Probus Club of Kincumber", nominations were
then called for the various offices. The following
members were elected to these positions

Fees
were set at $2.00 nomination fee and $5.00 per annum with
meetings to be held on
the
fourth Tuesday of the month at 10am in the club rooms of Avoca
Beach Bowling Club.
President
Allan then thanked those present and after presenting Probus
badges to the 27
nominees,
declared the inaugural meeting closed.
Thus
the Kincumber probus club was formed, it being the sixth club
in operation in the
Central
Coast District.
The
club went on hand over fist, gaining new members at a
surprising rate, so much so
that,
even though our membership had grown and was limited to 70, an
extensive
waiting
list had built up, a new club was formed known as Avoca Beach
Probus Club
